WeaveGrid, a software company that builds data products to enable increased adoption of electric vehicles, announced the launch of its platform in support of DTE Energy’s (DTE) Smart Charge program. DTE Smart Charge leverages vehicle telematics, to help electric vehicle (EV) drivers manage their charging during times of the day that help the energy grid operate more efficiently. WeaveGrid’s solution enables affordable, optimized charging for EV drivers while managing grid demand for utilities.

WeaveGrid is supporting the program alongside others including GM, Ford, and BMW, to add in Tesla driver eligibility via the evPulse platform. Eligible EV drivers can easily enroll in the program through the WeaveGrid user interface and gain access to $50 in sign-up incentives and $50 in end-of-program incentives from the utility. By joining DTE’s Smart Charge program, WeaveGrid offers valuable data needed to manage the grid including load shifting off peak times, while providing drivers with incentives, charging insights, and reducing charging costs.

“DTE is excited to offer more services to our EV driver customers with WeaveGrid joining our Smart Charge program. This will not only expand access to innovative smart charging solutions but allow us to learn more about EV adoption in our service territory to make strategic decisions for grid planning and EV growth,” said John Boladian, director, Energy Efficiency, DTE Energy.

WeaveGrid has already launched the EV Data Sharing program with DTE to provide Toyota, Lexus, Tesla, Kia and Hyundai drivers key insights into charging behavior while reducing charging costs. DTE receives data that helps them improve grid planning and operations - supporting the company’s efforts to balance grid loads, reduce driver energy costs and accommodate the flux of EVs plugging in. WeaveGrid has also deployed its EV Detection solution, utilizing its proprietary machine learning algorithm to analyze AMi data from millions of meters and determine which households are likely to have EVs. In its first run, the EV Detection algorithm identified roughly 20,000 new residential EV households in DTE’s territory.

“WeaveGrid is thrilled to launch with DTE, the utility company for America's automotive capital,” said Apoorv Bhargava, CEO of WeaveGrid. “Our software platform will help advance EV adoption by seamlessly integrating EVs onto the grid, supporting clean energy utilization and grid reliability while maximizing benefits for EV drivers.”

WeaveGrid’s mission is to accelerate EV adoption while elevating the EV driver experience and facilitating renewable energy integration on a resilient grid. DTE Smart Charge is one of the many ways WeaveGrid is providing strategic insights and load shifting capabilities for utility companies to help them manage the grid. Launching in the automotive capital, this program seeks to determine the best strategies available to address concerns around whether or not the grid can handle an exponential rise in EVs.
