Tesla EV Charger owners in BGE territory can now enroll in EVsmart® EV-TOU directly in the Tesla app

WeaveGrid today announced a new in-app enrollment experience that allows eligible Baltimore Gas & Electric (BGE) customers with a Tesla Wall Connector to enroll in BGE’s EVsmart® Vehicle Charging Time-of-Use (EV-TOU) program directly through the Tesla app. The experience meets drivers where they already manage home charging and is designed to make participation in off-peak charging programs more seamless as EV adoption continues to grow.
With in-app enrollment, drivers can discover the EV-TOU offering, start enrollment in a familiar interface, and complete a brief verification step to connect their offering to their BGE account and confirm eligibility.
“This launch reflects an important shift toward making grid-interactive programs feel native to the EV driver experience,” said Apoorv Bhargava, CEO of WeaveGrid. “When participation is intuitive, it’s easier to scale managed charging that benefits drivers and supports reliability as local EV load grows.”
How it works
This launch reflects close coordination across the ecosystem:
- Tesla provides in-app discovery and enrollment
- WeaveGrid manages data connections and program orchestration
- BGE delivers customer value through its EV-TOU rate
WeaveGrid plans to make this in-app enrollment experience available in additional jurisdictions over time, based on utility program availability, customer eligibility, and program requirements.
Momentum in Maryland
In Maryland, BGE continues to expand options that help customers charge off-peak and help manage growing EV load on the distribution grid. The Maryland Public Service Commission recently approved BGE’s proposal to expand managed charging participation to 30,000 enrolled devices by the end of 2027, underscoring the importance of accommodating EV charging with minimal impact on local infrastructure.
As EVs and other flexible loads scale, participation models that can grow simply and reliably become increasingly important, especially where constraints show up first on local equipment like transformers and feeders. In-app enrollment supports that scale by making program participation feel native to the charging experience and easier to sustain.
Availability: Drivers with Tesla Wall Connector Chargers in BGE territory can check the Tesla app today to see eligibility and begin enrollment.
Note: Tesla provides the in-app enrollment pathway. Program eligibility, incentives, and rate terms are administered by BGE.
